Roll up, roll up!!!

Roller shutters (often called Tambour doors) have been a part of the kitchen landscape for many years, but in the last few years the minimalistic feel to kitchen design and production has seen a dramatic reduction in these styles. As with handle manufacturers, roller shutter designers and producers have been actively searching for ways to reintroduce the product back into design.

BOXMILANO DETAIL (3)Box Milano from Italian manufacturer FBSprofilati S.r.l., a company that specialises in many aspects related to the supply of high quality decorative profiles and related accessories for the furniture(kitchen and office), glass, door and window and frame industries, released its latest offering at Interzum, held in Cologne, Germany last week. Michael Caredda from the company said in a press release that the product is extremely versatile, attractive and creates a new feel when introduced in any arena.

photo (3)It certainly hit the mark! The introduction of Swarovski crystals to a roller shutter raised many eyebrows and coupled with attractive steel mesh brought a new look to an old application. There are always going to be overhead cabinets that extend to the benchtop, and whilst many manufacturers here have trended towards another two doors with concealed handles to avoid too many lines, our feeling on this new product confirms FBS’s thinking and gutsy attempt to re-introduce a product used by so many over a lonmg peiod.

Any thoughts?
