A chair that will eclipse

photoI had the pleasure of escorting a colleague of mine from Italy to a variety of showrooms in Sydney earlier this week. One of the places he was extremely impressed with was Kastell Kitchens in Sydney’s north- west. Owned by Vince Monteverde, Kastell has been designing and manufacturing beautiful kitchens for both indoor and outdoor use since 1983, and the showroom is reflective of the attention to detail and creativity that saw them combine with Rolling Stone Landscapes to win an award at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2006 and then back up and do the same thing a year later at the Melbourne Flower Show.

photo 3But as superb as the work they do is, I suspect this product could feature in some work Kastell do in the future, a stunning piece of furnite that would fit right into some of the wonderful creations Kastell produce for the outdoors. Inspired by Vincenso Antonuccio and Marilena Calbrini of VM Design, this week they released “Eclipse” a revolving chair that is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. In their Media release they say:- “an eclipse, a majestic spectacle offered to us by the sky, the unthreatening suspension of the ordinary rhythm of everyday life to which we can abandon ourselves with curious confidence. Light that becomes filled with meaning through its reverse in a fascinating role play where light and dark are strikingly played together. Two forces of nature, rapidly alternating the role of protagonist against the backdrop of the sky. Light that does not threaten to become engulfed by the darkness but, as it slowly fades, appears to tell us that it is possible to stop and observe the sky for no other purpose than that of childish wonder.”

photo 2I’m not sure about you but regardless of what that might mean – I love this piece of furniture, stunning lines, designed and crafted with so much love, you could see how, in so many locations across Australia, this piece of beautiful furniture could be the “wow” factor.

Do you agree?
