Technology in the bathroom

Clever Technology Image 1_webI’m not a big fan of technology for technology’s sake but where I can see technology applied cleverly and in an innovative way that benefits the homeowner, I’ll applaud every time.

So, when the press release for this product came across my desk I clapped my  hands in glee.

New from Swiss brand Geberit comes a touchless flush plate designed by celebrated Swiss designer Daniel Irányi. The Sigma80 is a touch-free, glass, electronic plate that operates with a mere wave of the hand. Ingenious sensors detect the motion of your had and activate either the full- or half-flush mechanism. The actuator plate is available in reflective or black glass giving it a simple, elegant style in keeping with today’s minimalist bathrooms.

A choice of five separate settings allows users to personalise the button via different colour settings, meaning the plate can be customised to suit your bathroom style with just a few, simple hand movements. An automatic stand-by mode minimises electricity consumption.

Geberit Sigma80 Black Glass In Situ_lrThe idea of a touch-less bathroom is not new and, indeed, has been seen across public spaces in Europe and parts of Asia for many years. But, as technology, design and seamless integration have improved, we are seeing more and more uptake of these new products down under. Partnered with other automatic functions – such as sensor tapware and soap dispensers – we are sure to see more interest from consumers to look at ways to integrate this highly-useful and hygienic technology within their own homes.

Design and practicality are addressed equally with this fabulous product which I love.

Geberit has been engineering innovative products since 1874, collaborating with high profile designers such as Tag Heuer lead designer Christoph Behling, Daniel Irányi and Matteo Thun. A market leader in Europe, Geberit’s expertise and innovation in concealed cisterns dates back to 1964.
