Designed by Luca Nichetto for Globo, the Affetto collection is the outcome of a joint research process across a variety of departments within the renowned Italian company and the designer to create a range of bathroom furniture and sanitary fittings that celebrates natural shapes.
“Affetto responds to basic needs: the creation of sanitary fittings that have an essential and simple form, that concede nothing to superfluous decoration, and a combination of furniture that can adapt to different spaces and areas. I was inspired by the Modernist movement of the 1950s: nothing is extraneous, and everything finds a logical setting,” says designer Luca Nichetto.
Nichetto’s desire was to scale-down the elements of the bathroom and design a range of fixtures characterised by a single continuous surface, from top to bottom. The basin range is complemented by a free-standing unit – Monolito (pictured) – with its asymmetric form and reduced base size which makes it highly adaptable to a range of bathroom styles.
The 2013 Iconic Award is organised by The German Design Council, a world-class reference point in the dissemination of knowledge in the field of design. An independent jury, staffed by representatives from various sectors including architecture, interior design, design & brand communications, e.g., representatives from the Beijing-based Büro Ole Scheeren firm and London firm Zaha Hadid Architects, assigned the 2013 edition award to Affetto.
This is not the only award or accolate this stunning collection has received: it was selected by the ADI Design Index 2012 for inclusion, and was nominated for the Interior Innovation Award and 2012 Grandesign Etico International Award.
I absolutely love the simplicity of the shapes created in the examples pictured here – just two of many available. Also featured is the Affetto floor-mounted pan and bidet.
