Another stand which caught our attention at the recent Grand Designs Live show in Sydney was from Zip Industries. Zip is best known for its instant hot and cold filtered water solutions and has recently launched a sparkling water option to its HydroTap range.
Zip’s stand was bright, open and welcoming with a number of very interesting visual design features which were very much in keeping with the design focus of GDL. The “roof” of the stand was adorned with plastic bottles to represent the 3000 bottles of water that an average family of four would consume. Not only was this a unique approach to stand design but it’s also a stark reminder of how much plastic waste we generate as a society.
You’ll be interested to know that the “flower pots” on the stand were actually recycled parts from the internals of Zip hot water systems. Jamie Durie, well known to us all for his work on design and sustainability (among many other activities), had the idea to include both the plastic bottles as well as re-purpose the internal fittings for use on the stand. Jamie works with Zip HydroTap as a Product Ambassador and is well placed to speak about the benefits of Zip’s HydroTap product – he has four installed in his own home!
The main stand was designed by Shareen Joel of Shareen Joel Design, Melbourne and it included many working product examples as well as a very interesting look through Zip’s history. It’s always amazing to see how product development and technological changes can influence product design over the years and this was no exception.
Zip had also partnered with the Grand Designs Live team to station Zip HydroTap cold and sparkling water dispensers at strategic points through the exhibition allowing show attendees to help themselves to a refreshing beverage while strolling through the stands.
