Jeremy Cole is an award-winning artisan whose collections are appreciated around the globe for their contemporary and timeless beauty. Born in New Zealand, Jeremy moved to Great Britain in 1989 after working in his mother’s interior design showroom in Wellington for many years.
In 2004, a visit to London’s Tate Modern inspired Jeremy to explore the relationship between ceramics and light, and the very next day he set out to understand and work with bone china. Two months later he produced his first piece – the iconic Aloe Blossom. In 2008 growing demand saw his studio move to the homeland of the ceramic industry, ‘The Potteries’ or Stoke on Trent and since then he has moved back to his homeland, New Zealand.
His philosophy rests on three points: beauty, elegance and craftsmanship. Today, his flora-inspired collections are appreciated the world over. Not only admired for their contemporary style and timeless beauty, but also for the care and skill each handmade piece entails. Light is gently captured in the glowing ceramic plant forms.
From his latest collection – this is “Chrysalis” and the beauty of its form immediately caught my attention. Inspired by the cocoon of a butterfly, the pendant light’s pure form shows off the simple porcelain core with an outer jacket that makes the most of the subtle, elegant play of light. “Chrysalis” is available in a single or three-piece cluster but I think it looks best when massed as in the image above.
