Good Design Australia has launched the re-named Good Design Awards (formerly the Australian International Design Awards) and is calling for innovative entries from Australia and around the world to the 2014 program.
In partnership with VIVID Sydney, Good Design Australia will host the annual Good Design Festival – an event dedicated to focussing the world’s attention on Australia as a leading international design destination. With a heritage that spans more than 50 years, the Good Design Awards is recognised as one of the world’s most coveted awards in the field of design and innovation.
Entries are now open across 15 categories with a broad spectrum of entries expected from such diverse fields as cutting-edge medical equipment, and heavy engineering and mining equipment as well as furniture and every day products such as toasters, televisions and kitchen utensils. The Awards also includes such rapidly-expanding areas such as service design and design strategy as well as products in the digital space.
“In a crowded marketplace, good design gives companies their competitive edge. It separates the extraordinary from the ordinary, excellence from mediocrity and the brilliant from the boring,” says Dr. Brandon Gien, CEO of Good Design Australia and President of the International Council of Societies of Industrial Design (the world organisation for industrial design).
He added that Good Design Australia is committed to building a greater appreciation of the role of professional design and creative thinking in product development and service delivery for business and consumers. “At the end of the day, this is about good design for better products, better services and ultimately a better world,” Dr. Gien concludes.
The 2014 judging panel is made up of leaders from the fields of industrial design, engineering, architecture, software and electronics design, service design, design strategy and communications design. The judges inspect all entries and critique each according to strict design evaluation criteria that includes form, function, safety, sustainability, quality, commerciality and innovation.
Submissions close 31st March 2014 and winners are announced on 29th May 2014 at the Good Design Awards Gala Night in Sydney.
