Another Red Dot for Cielo

We’ve written previously about the basins and other products that Cielo produce – now they have been recognised for the excellent work they continually produce. Cielo has won its third Red Dot Award for Slot, Ball and Mini Ball, a new generation of urinals, long on personality, designed by 5.5 Designers.   BALL_arenaria_2

Cielo also won a Red Dot Award in 2012 for its Le Giare freestanding washbasin and suspended bathroom fixtures. Established in 1955, the Red Dot Award is one of the most important international awards in design. This highly prestigious accolade given to Cielo recognizes its design culture, which is based on bringing back Italian manufacturing tradition in combination with state-of-the-art technology to create exclusive collections that embody the uniqueness of handmade products. SLOT

The award’s jury included 40 expert representatives of international design who admired the originality of the Cielo’siconic urinals, which were among the more than 4,815 submissions from 1,816 companies and designers from over 50 countries.

Slot, Ball and Mini Ball are versatile design products based on pure geometric forms. They match French creativity with high quality Italian handmade style in a new creative approach for residential and contract bathroom furnishings. BALL_arenaria_1b

The team of young designers, clear stars of the international designs scene, worked with Cielo for the second time. They took a fresh approach to an everyday object, creating three versions that stand out for their unexpected styles.

Slot, in a floor-mounted version, is a monolithic block, like a sculptural totem carved by a deep curved slot. Dimensions: 30 x 23 x 147h cm;

Ball, in a suspended version, is like a witty sculpture with its generous, soft, pure shape based on the geometry of a circle. Dimensions 54 x 32 x 59h cm;

Mini Ball, also in a suspended version, has the same form as Ball, but in smaller dimensions: 47 x 24 x 50h cm.MINIBALL_BALL

The tongue-in-cheek, extroverted style of 5.5 designers served as an excellent counterpoint to the classic form of urinals. They also gave a great deal of attention to comfort as well as optimal practicality and ease of mounting and cleaning. The urinals also are another example of Cielo’s commitment to protecting the environment, designed to save considerable water when used.

They are made in the finest Italian ceramic material and come in glossy white, glossy black, stone, charcoal and color finishes. The color finish are from the Terre di Cielo range inspired by natural elements.
