Skylift from Faber

Skylift def lr_lrNew from Faber, and released at this year’s Eurocucina, is Skylift – a product the company claims is the “only retractable hood built into the ceiling that lowers onto the hob”.

This is a high performance, innovative model that combines Faber’s “up&down” technology with the elegance of a built-in hood and the maximum extraction expected from such an appliance. 4 thin steel cables lower the hood towards the hob whenever required and retract it when no longer in use.

The unit is constructed from white glass and stainless steel for a clean, elegant design and, for a bulky item, it has the appearance of being extremely light. At this stage one size is available – 90 x 64cm.

Installed neither vertically nor on the wall, the hood is built and recessed entirely into the ceiling. When ready to use, it lowers towards the hob, stopping at the desired height by remote control.

It offers a high performance extraction rate and the fact that it recedes entirely means the cooking area is freed of any obstruction when the rangehood is not required. Powerful LED bars built into the lower section are energy efficient at just 7-watts consumption.

My opinion? I love it. I’ve long felt that island cooktops suffer from bulky rangehoods that attach to the ceiling and obstruct the view into the adjoining rooms and here’s a solution that uses the ceiling cavity for storage meaning the unit is only in place when it’s needed and is otherwise neatly tucked away.
