“Hidden” is an enigmatic wooden box designed by Giulio Gianturco for Makro. Representing a trunk, once opened Hidden reveals a functional make up and washbasin area with a Corian basin, integrated stainless steel taps, mirror with magnifying lens, lowered shelves, drawer, light and plug.
When closed, Hidden becomes an elegant wooden box which sits in the visual background of the bathroom and doesn’t reveal its true function until opened. The main structure and drawer are constructed from thermo-treated wood in Hemlock finish which is grown in areas known for deforestation programs. Supported by a stainless steel mechanism for ease of opening, the cover moves effortlessly as needed.
The company explains that the design and construction of this unit required much in the way of technical skill from the product development department at Makro working in conjunction with the designer to bring the creation to life.
At this stage one size is available – 100cm x 55cm x 27cm (height).
I always wonder about functional items with lids and tops and whether you’d simply end up leaving them open. This is, after all, an essential element of the bathroom and one which you’d use every day. From a practical perspective, are homeowners really going to close it up after each use and re-open before each use or will it simply stay open because that’s what’s easiest?
I’m in two minds about this one – what do you think?
