We had a lot of fun visiting DesignEX yesterday despite initial reservations about the extra time and trouble to get to Glebe Island. In the end our trip was simple and easy and we felt the “tent” on Glebe Island was a great setting for this design-focussed show.
There was so much to see – check our our Facebook page for some of the highlights – but one stand in particular caught our attention. Newcomers Wood Melbourne impressed visitors with a range of beautiful, functional, handcrafted timber water spouts.
Designed and created by carpenter Oliver MacLatchy, the initial range includes two designs – the Isla wood spout and the Kiri wood spout. Displayed at the show with a gorgeous showerhead concept and a lovely timber-surround bath, these unique products were certainly eye-catching and, judging by the number of people milling at the stand, very popular as well.
Wood Melbourne’s timber spouts provide a warm, sustainable and natural alternative to a traditional bathroom spout. The raw timber used for each spout is reclaimed wood that is taken through a 12 step process by hand which includes detailing, sanding and waxing.
This process makes sure each finished timber spout is unique in aesthetic but uniform in levels of exceptional craftsmanship and quality. Each piece is made by hand and they can be customised to almost any size.
Wood Melbourne will soon open a dedicated showroom in Brunswick, Melbourne where the current range and new products will be on display but, in the meantime, check out www.woodmelbourne.com for more information.
