Ye – Elica island hood

YE_1This stunning shape is the new Ye island hood from Elica. The company describes it as a “majestic yet light shape with innovative material”  and I love it for its shape and interesting visual aesthetic.

Designed by Fabrizio Crisà (responsible for many Elica designs), the hood uses Cristalplant – a material we’ve seen used by many European manufacturers but often in bathrooms. I can’t recall seeing a hood made from Cristalplant before. A man-made product, designers and manufacturers love it because it can be formed into almost any shape, allowing for the ultimate in creative expression.

YE_2Ye is in the shape of an inverted “Y” and provides the user with a double suction source. It’s “spread” at the base allows coverage across the surface of the cooktop below while it’s thinner, more delicate, top provides a lovely visual balance. The strong linear aspect of the top of the unit is offset by the soft lines of the curved bottom of the inverted “Y”.

Ye is operated via remote control and boasts a high-performance motor and high efficiency for both aspiration and filtering. The unit features LED spotlights from iGuzzini which, despite being concealed from the view, provide excellent light for food preparation.
