Stunning Vessel bathtub and wash basin

140628_Splinter-Works_071_lrWith a strong sense of sophistication and a moody maturity, this is the Vessel bathtub and wash basin from Splinter Works. Visually arresting, the curvaceous shapes make for striking feature pieces in the bathroom. The interesting contour of the pieces contrasts angular elements with the softness of curves which makes these items so different. Conceived in woven and lacquered carbon fibre, both the bathtub and the wash basin are tactile, warm and inviting.

140628_Splinter-Works_027 copy_lrSplinter Works is the same company which brought us the suspended Vessel hammock bathtub which has caused such a stir across social media (I’ve seen it shared countless times on blogs and Facebook). In a slightly different vein, this Vessel is a freestanding form with no need for vertical structures to anchor it into place. The shape has been optimised to provide a relaxing bathing experience for the user.

140628_Splinter-Works_074_lrSplinter Works is known for its use of carbon fibre in the bathroom and the pieces are produced in a giant autoclave, as Formula 1 cars are made. Carbon fibre is more than simply incredibly strong – it is also extremely lightweight. Empty the Vessel bathtub only weighs 14kg which means upstairs bathrooms do not need floorboard reinforcing.

140628_Splinter-Works_036_lrThe finish of the carbon fibre can be seen up close with the geometric weave showing through the smooth layer of lacquer giving a look more often associated with fabric. Seen here in black, the signature finish, the Vessel bathtub and wash basin are also available with coloured lacquer finishes.
