“Ovum Bath” released just before Verona’s show of stone

On the eve of the imminent 2014 edition and for the third year, Marmomacc & the City (a show for those connected with the stone industry) is back, an exhibition of sculptures and installations in stone in the center of Verona, Italy, organised by leading local architect Laura De Stefano in conjunction with the Association of Architects and the City of Verona.

Starting from September 24 until the end of October, Verona will become a welcoming  stage where companies  will exhibit their works in marble and natural stone, leaving the boundaries of the fair to be a part of a great event called “open air”.photo 1

The works will be placed in the most original places in Verona, squares, courtyards and alleys to involve citizens, tourists and visitors with the timeless appeal of natural stone contemporary revisited.

One of the companies exhibiting will be Franchi Umberto who will exhibit in Piazza Bra, close to the beautiful Arena. Their latest release is the bathtub ‘Ovum’, a project by Archizero, designed by Michele Cazzani, Tony Matjias and Paolo Revolt.photo 2

The “Ovum” bath with an sleek shape, aims to be a tribute to what nature perfectly created; resulting in an idea and a place where you can let yourself go and be engaged with serenity. The infinity edge system is not only functional but also absolutely necessary in order to understand the concept at the basis of this piece of art. “Water is not an element which enters into a container but it is a volume being an integral part of the system itself.” said a spokesman – whatever that means!

The careful and wise choice of the Calacatta marble and the typology of block allowed to make that uncommon and happy union between shape and material come true by means of an absolutely harmonious unicum. As if by magic, marble veins seem to gush out of the bath together with water and the result is light, flowing and dynamic.

For those who haven’t been, Verona is one of the most beautiful and fascinating places in Italy – I wonder what the chances are of getting there for this show??
