Competing against a strong field of entries, the overall winner of the 2014 Australian Timber Design Awards was the Dandenong Mental Health Facility by Bates Smart (in collaboration with Irwin Allsop Group). The Awards are Australia’s leading design competition for projects featuring timber.
Now in their thirteenth year, the Australian Timber Design Awards (ATDA) are distinguished by a proud heritage of innovation and achievement, with past winners representing the best of Australia’s architects and building designers. The Awards were announced during a presentation dinner at Sydney’s Maritime Museum on September 18th.
The Overall Winner’s Award, sponsored by WoodSolutions, the Dandenong Mental Health Facility, also won the Excellence in Timber Design – Multi Residential – New Buildings award.
The 2014 Awards featured the inaugural Excellence in Timber Design – Sustainability award, sponsored by Planet Ark’s Make It Wood campaign, won by Lend Lease for Melbourne’s The Library at the Dock, designed by Clare Design and Hayball Architects.
A Rising Star Award, for students and entrants aged 35 or under, was awarded to Ricky Booth of Wolveridge Architects for the Eltham South, Blairgowrie project.
