Lapèlle leather tiles

La pèlle_comp1A_lrFrom Studio Lapèlle, this is a new collection of wall and floor coverings with a unique finish. Named “Collezione Lapèlle” these tiles are made from bovine or full-grain buffalo finished leather saddled in the mould on a polyurethane structure with medium density to allow for installation in humid conditions, such as in the bathroom.

La pèlle_comp1D_lrThe saddling does not use glues or solvent resins and the leather is treated to be waterproof and stain-proof. Lapèlle leather tiles have also sound-absorbency properties. A palette of colours, textures and materials has been designed to allow for individual design by interior design professionals while an exclusive patented installation system allows for installation and replacement of tiles with ease, without the need for structural work.

La pèlle_comp1C_lrIt’s an interesting concept and one I’m sure would lend an individual feel to any interior space although I can see this idea working very well in a bathroom situation. What’s the feeling from the industry? Could this product have a place in an Australian home?
