Italian designer and manufacturer Molteni & C has opened its first flagship store designed by internationally-renowned designer Patricia Urquiola. Located in the Minami Aoyama district, the store is adjacent to the Nezu Museum, one of Kengo Kuma’s masterpieces.
The store is around 300 square metres and is divided into two levels, with collections by Patricia Urquiola, Ron Gilad, Rodolfo Dordoni, Dante Bonuccelli and Matteo Nuziati on display.
In the living room, Molteni & C is featuring the Pass-word system, Reversi ’14, Breeze and D.2702 seating, and the set of Chelsea armchairs. In the bedroom, visitors can view displays of the Sweet-dreams bed, the Gliss-Up wardrobe and the new Wing door.
Always interested in local culture and history when designing in other countries, Patricia Urquiola has designed a space that combines contemporary effects with traditional Japanese high-end style. The design sees a graphic wall which stands 7-metres high, made of local cedar, which acts as a filter between the interior of the showroom and the rising sun.
