From innovative studio Sawdust Bureau comes the simply beautiful Pinch Bench. Another step sideways from our standard kitchen/bathroom fare, but this was too lovely to not feature.
Sawdust Bureau is a young, Melbourne-based partnership between Irish-born architect Bryan Cush and American-born engineer Greg Bielawiec. The company specialises in the design and fabrication of low-volume, high quality, bespoke and customisable furniture made from 100% Australian timbers in its Kensington workshop.
The Pinch Bench is the creative result of a pinching action to form a rectangular loop which creates a narrow slot at one end of the bench – the perfect, shadowy place to store guilty-pleasure magazines. At the bench’s other end, embedded brass strips provide the ideal location to display magazines you wish to have on show.
Pinch will seat three people in comfort and even doubles as a coffee table.
In keeping with the bespoke nature of the business, each piece is stamped with an edition number and maker’s mark. The company guarantees once the edition (20 pieces for Pinch Classic and 49 pieces for Pinch Blond) has been exhausted it will never be reproduced.
Dimensions are L:1600 x D:330 x H:430mm and the bench is made from reclaimed jarrah, Victorian ash, a concrete core, brushed aluminium and brass strips.
