Artisan Laquercia21

These fun and quirky items are from Laquercia21, an Italian company that designs and manufactures customised furniture to create unique pieces that are not mass produced.

Laquercia21 is a laboratory of ideas, materials and techniques, an open space intended for  joint planning with clients, architects and designers for the creation of a custom made design. Every job is a special case, with no pre-packaged solutions. The ecodesign concept, which is the basis of every production made of wood and recycled materials, allows a constant experimentation with aesthetic and functional solutions.

Laquercia21 designs and manufactures customised furniture: cupboards, dressers and console tables, lamps, tables and chairs, bookcases, wardrobes and beds, stairs and wooden structures. These are unique pieces, not mass produced, customised according to client’s requirements for color, sizes, and finishes.

Laquercia21 also creates customised interior projects for private houses, bars and shops and is always on the look out for new ways to use reclaimed wood and discontinued items, suitable for transformation and reuse. In the laboratory there are combinations of various wood species, resins, cloths, iron and recycled materials such as parts of old furniture and fixtures, parquet waste, used timber. Each piece is crafted exclusively in craftsmanship, combining engravings, mosaics, inlays and lacquers. All the products are finally treated with natural finishes to water and beeswax.

All this because, as Luca and Nicola say: “We love the unconventional and unpredictable nature of these types of materials, with their evocative traces of old paint, defects, the signs of time. We like the idea of injecting new life and giving a second chance to a wood and other objects destined for oblivion and landfill. We both believe in the importance of reuse and recycling as an alternative to the use of natural raw materials whose production sometimes has a huge environmental impact.”

In addition to this, Laquercia21 prefers low-impact practices and products, minimising machining waste, using water paints instead of those containing chemical solvents, avoiding purchasing exotic woods of dubious origin.
