The Furnipart Edge Filigree handle, designed by Danish designer Rikke Frost, has recently won the German Design Award 2018. The announcement was made on 20th October and the award ceremony will take place during the international Ambiente fair in Frankfurt 2018.
This recognition means an increased focus on a niche in Danish design and is a great honour for both the company and the designer. The past 40 years, the Danish design company Furnipart has ensured an individual and personal touch to kitchens, bathrooms and wardrobes with handles designed by both Danish and international designers.
Winning the German Design Award 2018 with the Edge Filigree draws attention to both the design process and the selection of handles within a niche market often overlooked. The designer Rikke Frost has worked intensely on the design of Edge Filigree and the result is a handle which is both functional and has a distinctive decorative element.
She says, “It is always nice when your work is being appreciated – especially when you feel you have taken a chance with a design. It gives you more courage and strength to believe in your own ideas and makes you want to be even more daring in the future. I believe that materials and the combination of these can create a unique experience – both visually, functionally and tactilely. Sometimes it’s the material or the production process which inspires, and sometimes it’s a function or nature that sparks an idea in me”.

The German Design Award is awarded by the German Design Council, and it is one of the most prestigious international design awards. The design council was founded in 1953 by the German parliament, and today the council is one of the leading competencies within communication and knowledge sharing when it comes to design.
