Yesterday’s kitchen scraps can be converted into tomorrow’s cooking gas thanks to a new invention by HomeBiogas – a clean energy home solution launched on Kickstarter.
HomeBiogas 2.0 gives households the power to transform food waste into clean cooking gas and natural liquid fertiliser and reduce the home’s carbon footprint at the same time. The product is available now in Australia.
Leftover organic waste is deposited into a closed, odourless appliance which converts the waste into biogas that fuels kitchen cooking appliances and produces a natural fertiliser to nourish garden plants. HomeBiogas has updated the existing technology for biodigesters to create an affordable and user-friendly experience that is more suited to today’s residential environment.
HomeBiogas 2.0 works at twice its original speed and the units are now more durable, cheaper and easier to assemble. Each system can produce up to three hours of cooking gas per day.
The units, equipped with a water-resistant outer layer, are fed with equal parts food waste and water. Installation is a simple process – the digester is filled with water, then the gas container mounted with the sandbags supplied, then the machine is ready to go. Inside the system, the waste is broken down naturally by bacteria, releasing biogas. The gas tank gradually inflates with ready-to-use gas. Through a patented mechanical pressure mechanism, the gas is delivered at a uniform rate from system to the stovetop.
