New KBDi insurance Master Policy

Available now for all KBDi members – the new KBDi insurance Master Policy is a tailored, industry-specific insurance facility for interior designers, including those working in the niche areas of kitchen and bathroom design.

KBDi insurance Master PolicyThe Master Policy is the product of an arrangement organised by KBDi in partnership with KBDi Insurance Partner, CMIB (Cabinet Makers Insurance Brokers) that allows KBDi to leverage its group buying power to get its members the best cover at the best price.

KBDi recognises that even the most dedicated business professional can become overworked and under pressure, and if (or when) a costly mistake occurs, a comprehensive Professional Indemnity and Public Liability Insurance Cover is invaluable. The KBDi Master Policy provides Public, Products and Advertising Liability for $20,000,000 in any one claim, with an aggregate limit of $40,000,000 for Advertising and Products Liability (each) in any one period of insurance.

To ensure each KBDi member is able to access the insurance cover needed without being over- or under-insured, there are three categories available to suit the level of work undertaken by the member. If you qualify for Categories 1 or 2, you will be automatically covered under KBDi’s Master Policy.

KBDi insurance Master PolicyCategory 1: Design Consultants

If you offer a design service for a fee, including the provision of advice, plans and specifications for any non-structural interior design, but do not have anything to do with subsequent work (including organising trades etc…), you will qualify for Category 1.

Category 2: Design & Project Consulting

Category 2 candidates deliver a service similar to Category 1 but also provide clients with assistance in procurement, introduction and/or referral of tradespeople, suppliers and other professionals. Project Consulting may also include the supply of products like appliances, fittings and furniture.

Categories 1 and 2 do not include the management or supervision of the project or the engagement of subcontractors for the installation or application of supplied fixtures, fittings or finishes.

Category 3: Personalised Project Management cover

If you are suitably licensed to undertake project management you will most likely need Category 3 cover in which case CMIB will contact you to prepare a quote for a personalised policy that suits your specific requirements.

KBDi insurance Master PolicyApplying for Cover

The process of applying for cover can be completed in three simple steps. Step 1 is to complete the online application at kbdimembers.org.au (look for the KBDi PI & PL Insurance tab). It will take around 10 minutes to complete the form and your responses will allow CMIB to determine your best-fit policy.

Step 2 will take place once your firm has been received and your membership has been verified. This step will confirm if you qualify for Category 1 or 2 and you will then be advised of your proposed premium fee (premiums starts at $495 per annum), and an invoice will be generated. If more information is required, a CMIB representative will be in touch.

Step 3 commences when you have paid your invoice in which case your cover will take effect immediately.
