Hundreds of local and interstate builders came together on the 25 May at Crown Perth for the prestigious 2019 HIA–CSR Australian Housing Awards gala dinner, a showcase of some of the finest work being produced in Australia’s residential housing industry.
Presented at the HIA 2019 National Conference, the awards acknowledge the talent of builders, contractors, designers and manufacturers who plan and construct quality new homes, apartments, townhouses, renovations, kitchens and bathrooms.
And the kitchen and bathroom winners are:
2019 HIA Australian Kitchen of the Year
Winner: Darren James Interiors, Queensland
The HIA judges said: “Meticulously detailed and installed with precision, the quality of workmanship that was evident in every corner of this kitchen was a distinguishing feature that caught the judges’ eyes. With an asymmetrical layout adding interest and a balanced contrast between dark and light, the overall aesthetic is industrial but refined. A beautiful custom-designed timber island bench sits below an eye-catching pendant assortment, highlighting this exciting centre space within the kitchen and bringing the light and dark hues together”.
2019 HIA Australian Kitchen Design
Winner: Minosa, New South Wales
The HIA judges said: “Judges were impressed by the bright and airy feel inside this compact space. Using light finishes and clever design, the kitchen maximises each area to create a versatile culinary domain. For a client who loves to cook and entertain, the design needed to offer functionality and accessible storage options for a long list of appliances. The cabinetry integrated into the side of, and above, the bench ensures everything is within reach during food preparation and quick to store away for a clean, minimalist look”.
2019 HIA Australian Bathroom of the Year
Winner: Lane Group, Tasmania
The HIA judges said: “This bathroom extends beyond the usual boundaries of amenity spaces. With an outdoor bath nestled among the wooded landscape, relaxation is proven to be as high a priority as functionality in this lodge-like retreat. The bath and indoor wet areas are set back from the remainder of the property, forming a U-shape, to ensure privacy during use. Contrasting the textured timber cladding of this modern cabin-in-the-woods design, the charcoal tiling in the shower naturally guides the eye to the full-length window and view of the ocean ahead”.
2019 HIA Australian Bathroom Design
Winner: Archertec Interiors, ACT & Southern NSW
The HIA judges said: “Despite its moody palette of charcoal and onyx tones, this bathroom is unexpectedly light and spacious thanks to large frosted glass panels, which provide a favourable balance of privacy and light transference. The feature freestanding bath tub and matching basins have been crafted from Apasier Nero to complement the natural Arabescato marble vanity and cabinet tops. With the mirrored cabinets suspended from above, the basins are accessible from either side of the floating vanity – a clever example of engineering that impressed the judges”.
