Introducing a new lighting collection The Comber Range by renowned Cornish designer Tom Raffield with its signature steam-bent curves and recognisable design aesthetic.
The Comber Range is inspired by the power and grace of the Atlantic Ocean and the spiralling forms found scattered along Cornish shorelines, close to Raffield’s studio and home in Cornwall.
Raffield explains: “We sought to create a lighting range that brought a piece of the Cornish coastline into people’s homes; The Comber Lighting Range explores our relationship with the sea – the fluid organic shapes and the emotions it conveys. Our new designs produce cascading shadows and sweeping lighting effects that pay homage to one of nature’s most empowering elements, and one that never fails to inspire our work”.
The Drift pendant features six individual petals of oak or walnut interwoven and underpinned to a central structure of seasoned plywood. The hand-crafted time barrels bend as they mesmerise and delight as they cast shadows that seamlessly float and float and settle in buoyant tranquility.
The Keel pendant is steamed in one isolated section as a wide piece of oak or walnut timber is arced by hand into choreographed formation and held with three brass rivets. . This produces defined funnels of diffused downlight and looks beautiful as a single pendant but also looks particularly captivating when suspended as a clustered ceiling light.
Last but certainly not least in this collection is the Neap wall lamp which mirror the moon’s gravitational pull over the tide as the wooden silhouette showcases consistency. The Neap allows light to shine from both the top and the bottom in a unique and an intuitive lighting design that sweeps a soft ambient glow to far corners and suits an array of spaces.
The pieces come together in harmony to create a calm and tranquil atmosphere, with twists and bends that wrap and warp. Their fluid and evoking design allow for them to be displayed in an assortment of different displays. Allow the drift pendant and wall lamps to play centre stage in a living room while one, two or a cluster of the Keel pendants would shine in the entryway leading in.
