LIVING IN. Modern Masterpieces of Residential Architecture

Take a rare look inside of some of the world’s most extraordinary homes with LIVING IN. Modern Masterpieces of Residential Architecture, curated by leading design magazine Openhouse.

LIVING INOpenhouse, a biannual magazine that discusses art, design, architecture and culture, has spent the last six years giving readers a closer look at some of the most remarkable houses around the globe. In their first book, the editors open the doors to their highlights, including exclusive photography and rarely seen homes.

Its latest project is the outcome of curatorial research into 30 homes that have all, like Openhouse, opened their doors to the wider public, each piece of architecture typified by its strong, emotional appeal.

LIVING INThe selection and curation of the homes featured were driven by examining the four values that Openhouse upholds of Nature, Tradition, Personality and Community, while the publication is guided by the voices and wisdom of four well-known names from the world of contemporary architecture and design.

LIVING INNature – Spanish landscape designer Fernando Caruncho reveals the magic that lies hidden in nature, creation and the cosmos; Tradition – Belgian interior designer Axel Vervoordt deciphers the keys to the relationship between tradition and an audacious present; Personality – British architect John Pawson sketches a delicate, austere outline of what is commonly known as ‘personality’; and Community – Italian architecture studio MORQ venture on journey of discovery exemplified with its Villa Ra, exploring today’s ways of living and its impact on culture and society.

LIVING INFrom case study houses by mid-century masters to cutting edge contemporary architecture, LIVING IN. Modern Masterpieces of Residential Architecture describes what it feels like to occupy these spaces from the perspective of their owners—who themselves have become stewards of architectural history.

LIVING INThe book conveys the emotions that these works of architecture inspire in the editors, in addition to Openhouse’s vision and values as reflected in LIVING IN. Modern Masterpieces of Residential Architecture.

The book will be released in Europe on 29 September 2020 with an international release date of 1 December 2020 – but we’ve been told Australia can expect to have copies available at the same time as the European release.
