New Ell freestanding washbasin designed by Benedini Associati for Agape

Benedini Associati’s interpretation of the washbasin in the Ell series by Agape is an iconic but lightweight piece. The flat surface with its aeration grille is also the basin, and the two become a single element.

Benedini Associati’s exploration of form continues with the new freestanding version of the fixture, in a vision of architecture as a process of constant exploration.

Agape-EllA path marked by an intrinsic evolutionary logic, inspired by Bruno Munari’s notes on the design process in his famous “Da cosa nasce cosa” (“What comes from what”): the starting point is the idea of “simplification,” which encourages us to solve problems by removing everything that does not contribute to the functionality of a piece.

Agape-EllAnd what happens if a sink is placed far from the wall? In a simultaneously creative and rigorous sequence, the investigation proceeds by process of elimination and arrives at the pure essence of ‘washbasin.’

Agape-EllA horizontal line supported by a column. Two simple architectural elements that radicalise function. The entire surface, completely integrated with an aeration grid, eliminates the usual basin and emphasises its dual use as a washbasin and support surface for soap and other objects.

Agape-EllThe formal purity of the freestanding Ell model showcases the beauty of its materials. The top and the grille are in white or deep caviar Corian®, or in white Carrara, Carnico gray or black Marquina marble, and the column is in white or dark powder-coated steel.
