Designed by Garcia Cumini, this is Unit Pocket by Italian kitchen company Cesar and exhibited at last month’s Salone del Mobile.Milano.
Created specifically for compact apartment or small-home living, Unit Pocket is a free-standing cabinet that is kitted out with features that expand its functionality. Within this single unit are all the necessary kitchen functions – storage, washing, cooking and food preservation.
Because it can be installed as a freestanding item or against a wall, Unit Pocket is transportable – the company describes it as having a “nomadic spirit” which is a very cute way of saying that it can move with its owners if they change dwellings.
In the traditional, set-against-the-wall version, all the functionality is at the front of the unit but look at what the designer has been able to pack into that small area! There is a second version available which is double-sided and features a large opening that serves as a window of communication between the two spaces.
The rear side of the Unit Pocket can be utilised for living room functions or dining room functions as desired, to complement the kitchen functionality on the other side.
As with many European designs, Unit Pocket cleverly considers the nature of compact living while maintaining the kitchen as the social hub of the home, ensuring the inclusion of all the elements required for casual family dining or more complex entertaining situations.
Unit Pocket is also designed to integrate with other collections within the Cesar family, making it a true piece of designer furniture that happily co-exists within a variety of domestic environments.
