The KBDi 2022 Design awards were held last month in a series of gala and presentation nights. In a special series of posts, here are all the winners in the State categories.
2022 Bathroom Designer of the Year NSW
Winner: Eliesha Paiano | Paiano Design
Thoughtful planning and considered material selections helped this designer meet the brief and – importantly – the client’s sustainability goals. The designer created a space with an earthy aesthetic, innovative material usage and a highly functional layout, ticking all the boxes for a planet-friendly project.
2022 Bathroom Designer of the Year Qld
Winner: Sheena Hanks | Inka Interiors
The designer overcame the challenges of an extra-large space to create a well-appointed, proportionate and aesthetically pleasing space. The panel commended her on her efforts and a successful end result.
2022 Bathroom Designer of the Year SA
Winner: Jo Niedrer | Brilliant SA Pty Ltd
The judges were impressed with this designer’s innovative space planning and clever design solution. They commended her on a stylish selection of finishes and a pleasing and practical outcome.
2022 Bathroom Designer of the Year Vic
Winner: Naomi McLean | MJ Harris Group
Planning an expansive bathroom space is not without challenges, and the panel commended the designer on her proportionate resolution. The design was carefully considered and expertly documented, and a visual treat, too. The judges declared it a well-deserved winner in this tight competition.

Winner: Alysia Pekel CKD Au | Western Cabinets
With a fully fitted walk-in-robe, an opulent dressing room and a stunning ensuite, the designer’s capabilities were tested in this comprehensive project. From the well-designed upholstered panelled bedhead with suspended beside tables to the detailed walk-in-robe specifications, the designer has demonstrated an impressive scope of skills.

Winner: Helen Baumann CKD Au | Helen Baumann Design
The judges loved every element of this design. From the intelligent and thoughtful space planning to the charming material selections, the designer has presented an exquisite design solution. And with faultless documentation, the entrant is an obvious design professional and a worthy recipient of this State title.
2022 Kitchen Designer of the Year Qld
Winner: Hilary Ward | Urban Kitchens & Joinery
The designer overcame the challenges of a finished floor and fixed footprint to create a kitchen with an entirely new presence. The aesthetics of the space were well considered and balanced, and the documentation was clear, consistent and comprehensive. Congratulations to the Queensland winner.
2022 Kitchen Designer of the Year SA
Winner: Stefan Vignogna CKD Au | Stefan Vignogna Joinery & Interiors Pty Ltd
This design wowed the judging panel with its elegant-yet-modern design and well-planned execution. They commended the designer on his striking concept presentation and exceptionally high standard of documentation. The judges deemed the entrant a well-deserved South Australian state title winner.
2022 Kitchen Designer of the Year Vic
Winner: Naomi McLean | MJ Harris Group
This striking kitchen is expertly planned and classically styled, from the finishes to the fittings. The panel were most impressed with the superb design and meticulous documentation. They declared this designer a well-deserved winner in a hard-fought state competition.

High Commendation: Olivia Cirocco | GIA Bathrooms & Kitchens
The competition was tight in the Victorian field, and the judging panel deemed this entry worthy of commendation. The entrant delivered a clever design solution with thoughtful planning, exceptional detailing and an all-class achromatic aesthetic. The judges congratulate the designer on this stand-out entry.

2022 Student Design (Design Space)
Winner: Bronte Johnston | TAFE SA (SA)
This student designer submitted a fabulous concept presentation and beautifully executed plan set. The entry demonstrated great creativity and an impressive eye for detail – with these two attributes, we can’t wait to see where Bronte goes in her career.
2022 Student Design – Executive Director’s Special Mention Award
Winner: Lisa Katsikitis | TAFE SA (SA)
Designing for all abilities takes careful consideration and thoughtfulness. We were most impressed with this student designer taking on a complex brief and admired her endeavours to plan a wheelchair-friendly design solution. Well done, Lisa – keep up the great work, and you’ll undoubtedly go places.
2022 Student Design – Kitchen
Winner: Inesse Soussi | Swinburne University of Technology (Vic)
Inesse presented a lovely design concept, an incredible suite of 3D renders and a comprehensive specification and plan set. If her work is indicative of today’s graduates, we’re beyond excited about the future of our industry.

We were most impressed with this student’s fantastic retro-inspired kitchen, creative and colourful concept and expert documentation. Bronte has demonstrated superb skill in design and documentation – lovely work!
