The KBDi 2022 Design awards were held last month in a series of gala and presentation nights. In a special series of posts, here are all the winners in the Chapter Kitchen categories.
2022 Small Kitchens NSW
Winner: Eliesha Paiano | Paiano Design
This very small kitchen had some significant briefing challenges, but the designer came through. The space required thoughtful planning to ensure its practicality and a tactile and contemporary aesthetic that wouldn’t compete with the external environment. The designer’s solution was creative yet refined and ticked all the boxes.

Winner: Tania Kloester CKD Au | TK Design | Kitchens | Bathrooms | Interiors
Quirky clients, a home with history and an out-of-the-box brief delivered delightful inspiration to this designer. The 1950s cottage once housed a dental surgery, and the clients were keen to pay homage to this historical fact while creating a functional, well-serviced kitchen. With expertly executed planning and countless design details, the designer has created a playful, practical and joy-filled space.

Winner: Olivia Cirocco | GIA Bathrooms & Kitchens
The owners of this two-bedroom cottage had big expectations for this tiny space. With some thoughtful planning and exceptional detailing, the designer delivered a very clever solution. The achromatic cabinetry hides a surprising suite of services, and the material selection is on point. This little kitchen is stylish, contemporary and an excellent example of considered design.

Winner: Alysia Pekel CKD Au | Western Cabinets
The designer flipped and reconfigured this North Beach duplex’s existing kitchen and dining spaces, creating a far more functional layout for the young homeowners. The clever space planning is complemented with an intelligent selection of finishes, fixtures and fittings, making for a very successful home transformation.

Winner: Carla Waghorn | Design Artistry
This design solution was a light, bright and neatly executed response to a challenging brief. The designer cleverly reinvented the space with carefully planned changes to existing walls and windows, creating a connected and practical kitchen for her clients.

Winner: Anne Ellard CKD Au | KBK Kitchens
With the client being a self-professed foodie with a love for feeding friends and family, the designer paid great attention to the functionality of this space. With considered planning and attention to detail, she’s created a kitchen designed for cooking, with a natural and earthy aesthetic that will make all guests feel at home.

Winner: Stefan Vignogna CKD Au | Stefan Vignogna Joinery & Interiors Pty Ltd
This 1930s-character villa received a stunning transformation at the hands of a skilled designer. The reinvented space is both elegant and modern, meeting the client’s brief of a minimalistic style while still retaining respect for the heritage architecture. The kitchen is as functional as it is refined and an excellent example of timeless design.

Warm timber detailing, glorious shades of green and terrazzo tiles combine for significant effect in this little beauty. The brief was to create a happy space for a young family touched by tragedy. The designer certainly delivered with a light-filled, joyful kitchen that is as practical as it is pretty.

This 1950s cottage had some small and dinky spaces but big design potential. With some out-of-the-box thinking, the designer reclaimed the northern aspect, flipping the bathroom and laundry into a light, bright kitchen space. The new kitchen area enjoys a great connection to the garden, both through the physical layout and with the green and earthy interior finishes.

Winner: Helen Baumann CKD Au | Helen Baumann Design
The clients desired an elegant new kitchen for their 1920s home, and this designer certainly delivered. With an all-new orientation, the new layout made a vast improvement to the functionality of the space, while a stylish and classic colour and materials palette took the look of the kitchen to a whole new class.

Winner: Hilary Ward | Urban Kitchens & Joinery
The designer was challenged with a reasonably fixed footprint but successfully redesigned the kitchen to accommodate the clients’ wish list. The dark and smoky tones of the new kitchen have been beautifully balanced with the warmth and texture of a Tassie Oak veneer, and the overall look is lovely and liveable.

With a historically significant house and an all-but-open brief, the designer was tasked with simply making ‘something beautiful’. And that he did. The intelligent design sees a fully functioning contemporary kitchen nestled purposefully and independently inside the heritage home. The solution is unique and exquisitely detailed – something beautiful, indeed.

This stunning kitchen is beautifully detailed and designed with both form and function top of mind. From the finishes to the fittings, the space is expertly planned and classically styled. The designer has created a light-filled and luxurious kitchen sure to be loved by the homeowners for a very long time.

This spectacular custom build required a suitably statured kitchen, and the designer certainly met the brief. With a striking material palette, impressive list of fixtures and fittings and a carefully considered layout, the kitchen is built for entertaining and beautiful to boot.
