Lapitec Chef, an under-top induction hob, has won the Kitchen Innovation Award 2023 and has been billed as “a true revolution in the world of domestic kitchens”.
Lapitec Chef combines a mix of aesthetics and technology, together with performance and functionality, to create clean lines within the sintered stone surface. Its victory in the German contest, promoted by LifeCare.Network UG and announced during an official ceremony on 4 February at the Ambiente trade fair in Frankfurt, was decided by the public, who voted it the best product of this edition according to the criteria of ‘functionality, innovation, product benefit, design and material equality’.
“This is the first award for Lapitec Chef, which confirms our quest for innovation and also allows us to express the best characteristics of sintered stone,” explains Marcello Toncelli, who leads the company. “We have spent several years fine-tuning this product, which is patented, with the electrothermal developed in collaboration with the University of Padua,” he continued. “Our ambition is to make Lapitec the reference surface par excellence in the kitchen world, at an international level, and Lapitec Chef is an indispensable and unique tool through which we can move towards this goal.”
Lapitec Chef is operated by a double cooking mat equipped with magnetic sensors. When positioned on the worktop, it interacts with the under-top inductors and activates the touch controls and the system, for a total of four cooking areas also in bridge mode.
When the mat is removed, the induction unit and the controls – the only details of the appliance visible on the Lapitec hob, together with small engravings indicating where to place the mat – are inactive and ensure maximum safety even in the presence of children.
Lapitec Chef is compatible with all cookware suitable for induction hobs. The cooking mat is made of black food-grade silicone with a surface pattern that enhances its performance, and is dishwasher safe. When removed, it leaves the silica free and ‘full body’ sintered stone kitchen top – which can be customised in all the available colours and finishes of the Lapitec range – completely free. When free, the top can be used for preparing food, plating or even as a dining area, thanks to its non-porous, non-absorbent surface which is resistant to chemical agents and temperature changes, and NSF Food Zone certified for contact with foodstuffs.
