Meek bathware design brand

Meek is a new Australian bathware design brand with products developed and made locally that celebrate precast architectural concrete.

Meek BathwareThe company’s production moulds are made by the same company that produced Rob Mueck’s skulls for his “Mass” installation at the NGV while its timber works are carved on Australia’s largest 5-axis CNC machine. Its concrete is made by Melbourne’s largest producer of custom precast architectural concrete.

Meek BathwareWith the stated design objective to “create bathware that is exceptional in its sculptural beauty and character, true to its material, and to make the ritual of bathing an even greater pleasure”, Joshua Gullaci from Meek has worked with his production partners to develop and refine his manufacturing process.

The nature of this process means every piece created has a unique signature and presents concrete in a way this is refined but does not mask its raw beauty. Great importance has been placed on retaining the character of concrete while providing a luxuriously tactile surface.

Meek BathwareMeek enters the market with a collection of sculptural bathroom pieces that become the hero of the bathroom. Joshua explains the philosophy behind the pieces: “To me concrete is strong and solid; it’s robust and enduring. Yet despite its powerful and awesome strength, it has a sense of humility. I think
there’s beauty in that. I feel that concrete is very ‘Australian’ – it’s unpretentious and hard working; it has an honesty”.

Meek BathwareJoshua started his career in real estate but, in making the move towards design and production, has invested years into learning about the process, how the material works, product design and production. He cheerfully admits to many failures along the way but he believes these learning opportunities, together with an unreasonable amount of persistence and assistance from Australian industry leaders, allowed Meek Bathware to be born.
