The Avignon kitchen by TM Italia, designed by Nicola Gallizia in 2022, was awarded the Archiproducts Design Award for the kitchen sector. The awards ceremony took place on 16th September at the Superstudio in Milan, Italy.
The jury was made up of more than thirty international members, including leading architectural designers, journalists, architectural photographers and creative directors. Winners in each category were selected for their unique individual focus, celebration of diversity and ability to break traditional stereotypes.
The TM Italia Avignon kitchen was born from a desire to reflect the complexities of relationships; between an individual and the product, an individual and the environment, the designer and the product, and the designer and the environment. Within the design of the kitchen is an articulated system of elements that provide a distinctive edge to the space and reflect the design philosophy of the company.
From large, wood-grain or stone handles to the alternating closed and open units, the kitchen takes a “decompositional” design approach that celebrates the creation of complex geometries. Invisible technology allows the space to transform and adapt to the changing needs of the domestic space.
Large handles, placed either horizontally or vertically, and counterbalance the warmth of Eucalyptus Frisé wood used for all doors and drawer fronts, and the Dover White marble for worktops, back panels, the front of the island and for the pre-assembled sink.
Matte-coated Eucalyptus Frisè wood, sourced from FSC-certified wood species and processed using a dyeing process free of synthetic substances, creates small ripples of regular and parallel grain when light hits its surfaces. This warmth is counterbalanced by the Dover White marble with its fluid and sinuous shapes in shades of grey and milk white.
“We are honoured by this prestigious result matured with teamwork and unceasing commitment to innovation at the service of the project. Together with the Compasso d’Oro award for the Rua model in 2020, it represents a great confirmation of the virtuous path of TM Italia’s human-scale business model, which combines industrial capacity and craftsmanship in order to offer the widest possible spectrum of design opportunities. This result makes us realise that we are on the right track and it motivates us to do even better every day. “says Gianluca Tondi, General Manager of TM Italia.
