The HIA 2016 National Awards and Conference were held last weekend at the stunning Hamilton Island resort. Here’s a wrap up of the big winners in the kitchen and bathroom categories:
2016 Australian Kitchen Design
Winner: Minosa (NSW)
The sleek and modern design of this kitchen has helped to bring a dilapidated 1920s heritage-listed Sydney home into the 21st century. While the kitchen has a contemporary and minimal appearance, a number of clever features – including a pop-up power outlet in the island bench and electronic overhead cupboards – give it the functionality a modern family kitchen needs. The spacious design flows well, cleverly incorporating a window seat and connected laundry, while a thoughtful lighting design adds functionality, interest and warmth. minosadesign.com

2016 Australian Kitchen of the Year
Winner: Ultraspace & Stewart Homes (Qld)
The kitchen of this home was designed as a spacious gourmet entertaining experience,
incorporating an island bench, butler’s pantry, scullery and breakfast bar. It shows outstanding craftsmanship and joinery skills, which resulted in all workspaces and appliances, including the fridge and oven, being completely concealed when all the doors are closed. A large glass awning over the bar opens the kitchen up to the home’s outdoor entertaining area and the stunning mountain views beyond. ultraspace.com.au stewarthomes.com.au

with luxurious monochromatic finishes. It is designed with three distinct zones – bathing,
vanity and storage-come-seating area – with an entry point through the adjoining wardrobe.
The freestanding stone bathtub is placed on a Carrara marble platform, creating what the
judges described as an impressive and dramatic centerpiece. Scooped basins are seamlessly
and sculpturally integrated into the vanity top, and a spacious rainwater shower and statement round mirror complete the modern feel. minosadesign.com
