Blowing the bubble at ISH 2013

Pop up my Bathroom | Rückzug 2013It’s always interesting to see how quickly industry and consumer sentiment align. There is an increasingly paced but steady shift towards the holistic approach to bathroom design, with many more suppliers considering the opinions of the consumer on a growing scale. This was unquestionably demonstrated by bathroom planners and exhibitors at ISH 2013, recently held in Frankfurt.

Many suppliers on display in Cologne were interpreting the bathroom as that single place of serenity that is often demanded, paying attention to the notion that home comforts can be moved into the bathroom – or in this case, out of the home. One interesting display was the Bathroom Bubble, demonstrating that the comforts and tranquility that we all seek don’t have to be behind closed doors. As part of ISH’s main themes (Water and Energy) it’s so good to see designers being almost provocative in their approach to design.

In this instance the discussion, as seen by the German Sanitation Industry, offers a foretaste of possible bathroom trends to come, in their words “a mixture of undressing and grooming, a time between washing and relaxing, unwinding and communicating”. It’s a different approach I know, but that’s the benefit of going to shows like ISH – send us your most interesting piece from a show, I know many of you have some great images!
