Smeg's new French-door fridge

n-09Italian appliance manufacturer Smeg has recognised the popularity of the French-door style refrigerators – sales in the past year are up by 38 per cent – and released a new addition to the range.

Clean, streamlined styling with fingerprint-resistant stainless steel is matched by four-doors and the latest in food storage technology. A Zero Temperature compartment is designed for storage of items which need to be kept at a lower temperature – such as meat, fish and chicken – and for thawing items slowly and safely. The built-in ioniser minimises the amount of bacteria stored in the refrigerator to help in extending the life of stored foods.

n-09On the refrigerator’s right hand side, we find the Multi-Zone compartment which (as the name suggests) can be used as either a refrigeration space or as a freezer, depending on your needs. It features both shelving and dual compartments that can be set at a variety of refrigeration and freezing temperatures, including a 0-degree setting for longer safe storage of delicatessen products and a 6-degree setting for keeping meat in an easy-to-cut condition.

The FQ60XPA’s indicator panel controls all audio and visual functions and is operated by touch with clear icons indicating temperatures and functions currently in use. At a glance the user can see the exact temperatures of the refrigerator, freezer and multizone compartment and whether the economy and/or vacation modes have been activated.

n-09I particularly love the sliding body shelves that enable easy access to foods stored at the back of the appliance and the rotating middle section that creates a completely airtight seal as soon as the doors are closed. Total storage capacity is 610 litres which is comprised of 435 litres in the refrigerator and 175 litres in the freezer section.
