Furnipart’s News015 handle design collection has been designed specifically for this year’s show. The company says its direction is three dimensional, representing the three different trends with which it works when designing new handles – contemporary (a relaxed, elegant style), vintage (classic, enduring design), and the handle-less kitchen (linear, streamlined design).

At this year’s show the company presented 22 new designs within three collections – Arena, Parallel and Mercury.

Arena

Designed by Adam Laws, Arena features a continuous circular form and angled front for a distinctive and unique finish. The circular shape represents an arena or stadium, hence the name, and the designer intends the handle will play a central role in the kitchen.

Arena has a “secret grip” under the top lip that is invisible from the front but provides a very effective and comfortable grip. The positioning of the fasteners ensures an invisible, flat, secure mounting against the cabinet surface. All edges are visually continuous so there are no sharpcorners or areas that are difficult to clean. With its mix of circular and linear themes, the handle is both soft and modern.

Parallel

The designers at V2 wanted to challenge the idea of the handle-less kitchen trend and develop a product that would suit today’s trend towards smooth, streamlined cabinet fronts. They have designed Parallel – a handle that is integrated into doors and drawer fronts but which clearly indicates there is a handle there.

Parallel is characterised by a long, linear look with the recess cut using soft lines, for a comfortable finger grip, but a clean edge to suit the linear look of today’s kitchens.

Mercury

Mercury is a handle that combines feminine forms with a light ambience – modern with a hint of classic style. Designed by Kamper form, Mercury is available in both a handle and a knob and the designer says the “feet” are the handle’s most characteristic feature, “even a little cute”.

The styling of Mercury makes it perfect for a traditional kitchen as well as a more modern space where the softness of a classic-style handles helps take the edge off the linear nature of the kitchen.
