The Hailo Pantry-Box has been awarded an iF Design Award for 2016 – one of the world’s top design prizes which attracts more than 5000 entries world wide.
The Hailo Pantry-Box was first displayed at Interzum last year and I remember being very excited about its possibilities so it’s great to see the company achieve this fabulous award for design and innovation.
The Pantry-Box from Hailo Built-In Technology combines two essential merits: multifunctionality and order. Named after the little cuddy or pantry found on yachts, where space is in short supply, the Pantry-Box was developed for storing food. And that’s sensitive territory: the way food is stored has a direct influence on its quality and thus also a direct impact on our health.
Up until now, there has certainly been room for improvement in the kitchen when it comes to storing unwrapped groceries like fruit, vegetables, bread and baked goods – especially if you don’t want to keep these foods out on display in bowls or fill the worktop with additional containers that are not always particularly attractive.
The Pantry-Box is the perfect solution to this gap. With a dimensionally-stable, wipe-clean plastic box as its basic module, the system is geared towards all standard 60-cm pull-out frames and drawers available from major fittings specialists. Depending on whether the Pantry-Box is meant for fruit, vegetables or bread, the food is either placed on a removable plastic insert with slots that allow moisture to drain and air to circulate or on an attractively designed, top-quality wooden grid.
A sliding lid made of toughened glass keeps the contents hygienically covered but clearly visible. The practical food drawer has a nominal depth of 500mm. A removable, portable plastic container puts the finishing touches to the system and can be used both for storing and transporting groceries.
The jury of the iF Design Award also appreciated that the Pantry-Box’s functions make it an outstanding product in the “Kitchen” segment. The iF Design Award has been an internationally recognised hallmark of design excellence for more than 60 years.
