Alessandro Mendini collaborates exclusively with Bisazza for the Bisazza 2017 Collection. Bisazza’s association and friendship with the legendary architect and designer has spanned many decades. Today, Mendini designs objects, furniture, interiors, paintings, installations and architecture. As well as Bisazza, he works with international companies like Alessi, Philips, Cartier, Swatch, Venini and Hermés.
Exclusively for the Bisazza 2017 mosaic collection, Mendini has designed three new geometric decorative patterns using glass mosaic from various Bisazza collections. Each is highly individual, inspired and absolutely exquisite:
- Granada is an Arab-inspired classic ornamental motif created from 20x20mm glass and gold mosaic. Available in Bianco, Grigio, Nero and Oro.
- Ferrara is a contemporary, three-dimensional interpretation of the diamond-shaped Ashlar stone pattern that characterises the facade of the Palazzo dei Diamanti in Ferrara. Available in Grigio, Oro Bianco and Oro Giallo, it is created with glass and gold mosaic.
- Louisiana bears the hallmark feature of the poetic ‘Mendini brand,’ in which colour is conceived as language and alphabet. Louisiana utilises 10x10mm Bisazza glass mosaic tiles.
About these exciting new designs, Mendini says: “Ferrara, Granada and Louisiana are mosaic patterns based on three decorative motifs with geographic references to specific cultures. The three designs and their colours are reminiscent of Italian, Arab and Nordic atmospheres and rhythms. All signs originate from a classical idea of the ‘ornament’.”
