Providing much-needed housing for people with a disability, Australian charity Warrah Society last month saw a total overhaul of a kitchen at its Dural Campus in Sydney’s north west.
Drawing on the expertise of award-winning Sydney property developer Crown Group, renovation works involved the removal of an old kitchen (which had seen decades of use) and its replacement with a modern state-of-the art kitchen designed to meet the needs of the growing charity.
To complete the works, Crown Group’s property development team made a call out to Sydney’s top tradespeople and suppliers and was pleasantly surprised by the number of companies willing to help including JAG Plumbing, G&S Maroun, Sydney Plaster, Stone Tech, Hafele, Laminex, Dalley Demolitions, Rohys Painting, Harvey Norman and Kitchen World.
Crown Group Development Director Chris Pope acknowledged the great service provided by Warrah Society and thanked the suppliers and tradespeople who stepped in to help Crown Group to complete the kitchen.
“Warrah Society provides a wonderful service to the special-needs community not only with housing but day-to-day support, education and community engagement for both the families and the individual with disabilities,” he said.
With additional supplies and funding provided by Crown Group, the transformations are an example of the industry working together to help those in need, Warrah Society Chief Executive Officer Georgina Michaelis said.
One of two official charities supported by Urban Taskforce Australia; Warrah Society first came to the attention of Crown Group at a special event to celebrate CEO Iwan Sunito named Urban Taskforce Australia 2015 Property Person of the Year.
“We are thrilled by the generosity of Iwan Sunito, Crown Group and its trade contractors offering to undertake kitchen overhaul work in Warrah’s Group Homes on a pro bono basis. With many of our kitchens being out-of-date and poorly designed for our purposes, this will make such a difference to residents, all of whom live with significant disability,” Ms Michaelis added.
“We’re grateful to Crown Group and all of the tradespeople and suppliers involved in these amazing kitchen makeovers. The teams involved have been a pleasure to deal with and we were able to carry out the work with minimal disruption to the lives of our residents,” she said.
“We’re amazed at the transformation of the first kitchen. It’s incredible, it has changed the feel of the entire house!” Ms Michaelis added.
Completed in December in time for Christmas celebrations, the new kitchen features stone bench tops, a glass splash back, a large pantry and stainless steel appliances including a large double-sided refrigerator.
The renovation is the first of a number of kitchen makeovers Crown Group and the team of tradespeople and subcontractors will undertake for the charity organisation at its Dural Campus Group Homes.
Each kitchen will feature new appliances, tiles, floors and kitchen cupboard joinery.
First established in Dural in the 1960’s, Warrah Society provides housing for 50 residents across multiple locations in Sydney, and incorporates a biodynamic farm and farm shop as part of its main campus in Dural.
