Vinyl by Olympia Ceramica

This is the funky Vinyl by Olympia Ceramica, designed by artistic director and designer Gianluca Paludi, and unveiled earlier this year at Salone Bagno.

Vinyl by Olympia CeramicaI was lucky enough to be given a guided tour of the Olympia Ceramica stand at the show by Rodney Fyffe of Studio Bagno and it was one of the most enjoyable stand tours I undertook for many reasons. The first was that I learned that Gianluca Paludi is a huge AC/DC fan and his love of music – of all genres – had inspired the Vinyl basin.

Vinyl by Olympia CeramicaThe company describes the basin as “futuristic, but at the same time, romantic and nostalgic, simply in one word: unique”. From a distance, Vinyl appears as an authentic music console from the 1980s. A recessed basin features a turntable motif with a record imprint on its base. The stylus mixer is reminiscent of the record arm and the two handles for “volume control” actually regulate water pressure and temperature.

Vinyl by Olympia CeramicaIt’s an incredibly clever design with the furniture console also including a storage drawer which hosts a Bluetooth speaker and small holes to transmit the sound to the bathroom for the enjoyment of the user.

I did cheekily ask whether the speaker had been programmed to play only AC/DC music but I was assured that the user could select the music they most preferred at various times of the day.

Vinyl by Olympia CeramicaThe console is available in a range of colours and can include a tempered glass shelf, towel rail and a comfortable leather bag for accessories storage. Above, the LED mirror lights have been expertly designed to replicate the visual of a music equaliser.

For those who appreciate nostalgia, wrapped up in today’s technology, and aren’t afraid to have a bit of fun in the bathroom, Vinyl by Olympia Ceramica is a brilliant piece for the bathroom.
