For this year’s Cersaie Matteo Brioni presents Fuga flooring by Studio Irvine and realised by De Castelli, a new variation for its TerraFrame project. Known as TerraPlus, this new tile design features a geometric element called Fuga (which is translated from Italian to mean “escape” or a gap/space between pavements). The Fuga feature is a cross in natural copper which has been designed by Studio Irvine.
TerraPlus is a mixture of raw earth with added mineral binders and polymer resin, which
allows for a greater abrasion resistance and water resistance without losing its
permeability.
The project is the brainchild of architect Marialaura Rossiello of Studio Irvine and she explains her artistic direction: “the theme is inclusion, that is to say, insert the rigid elements into the continuous surface of Matteo Brioni. In line with TerraFrame project, this year for Cersaie, we design a metal element that resume the classic design of the FUGA1 in the common pavement. Nevertheless, the effect is inverted, the FUGA becomes a rigid element while the tile is the fluid element. Sometimes the FUGA escapes to discover that in the reality there is no tile, but a continuous flooring. The material chosen is the natural copper that changes its appearance with the passage of time and of its use, just like the surface in the raw earth. Two materials that meet in an innovative flooring design.”
The TerraPlus Fuga flooring is a solution that combines rigid elements with the raw essence of the earth and makes it a real journey back in time that reflects the original Etruscan and Roman decorative floors.
