PalermoUno new opening

PalermoUno, the house gallery launched in 2018 is the brainchild of Sophie Wannenes, founder and curator of the project. It has now opened to the public at the new location of Via Santa Maria alla Porta 5, Milan.

The idea of a new space, larger and with four window displays, like a real show apartment on multiple levels where intuition and experiment blend together, came from Sophie’s passion for research – from young design talents to the selection of international furniture and interior decoration brands.

The window display shows a sophisticated apartment in which the main role is played by chromatic surfaces, details of coloured wallpapers, fabrics, resin surfaces, ceramic, terracotta, glass lamps and handmade wool carpets.

In the large hall at the entrance, visitors are welcomed by the feminine ceramic sculpture from Anissa Kermiche, a fitting accompaniment to Forma&Cemento’s cement furnishings and with a wooden console by Medulum.

The dining room immerses visitors in another place: a tropical forest hand painted by Pictalab’s team creates a chameleon effect together with Schneid Studio’s wall units and accessories and with the kitchen top covered with Fangorosa’s tiles. The table with totem-shaped base dialogues and wooden seats, both by Soma, recalls nature, as well as the Medulum storage structures.

The spiral staircase leading to the upper floor embraces the large, suspended chandelier by Bomma that creates rainbow reflections on the wallpaper, animated by snakes, made by Wrap & Wall on a project for PalermoUno.

The light system is activated through a different selection of finishes from the Officine Morelli switches. The journey into design is accompanied by a special musical selection of PalermoUno played by Sonos sound system.

Next to the exhibition space, which can also be accessed through a dedicated entrance, there is the Shop in Shop of PalermoUno, a Wunderkammer full of small design objects, handmade jewellery and a made-in-Italy delicatessen.
