The Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer™ Dishwasher has changed kitchen design

There are revolutionary kitchen appliances that have changed the way we design and use kitchens, and the dishwasher in a drawer – pioneered by Fisher & Paykel – is undoubtedly one of them.

The Fisher & Paykel DishDrawer™ Dishwasher opened up greater possibilities in kitchen design as the modular appliance can be distributed throughout a kitchen, tailored to a user’s lifestyle, preferences and needs.

Fisher & Paykel developed the DishDrawer™ Dishwasher – the world’s first dishwasher in a drawer – in 1997. The design team observed how the modern-day kitchen was becoming the heart of the home, and that people used drawers more often than cupboards beneath benchtops. Basing the design on a filing cabinet, Fisher & Paykel solved key issues that existed with the drop-down dishwasher to provide a more versatile, ergonomic and efficient appliance that is better suited to modern kitchen design and household needs.

The DishDrawer™ is a self-contained dishwasher that can be installed and positioned to suit kitchen layout and household use. Available in single and double options, the modularity of the DishDrawer™ means it can be distributed throughout a kitchen depending on layout, space, and use. For example, one DishDrawer™ next to the sink is ideal for small apartments; one in the butler’s pantry will help keep open-plan kitchens tidy; and two single drawers placed either side of the sink will make family life and entertaining that much easier. This concept of ‘distributed appliances’, coined by Fisher & Paykel, opens up the possibilities of design and supports better functionality of a kitchen. The flexible placement of appliances allows kitchens to be zoned according to use, plus they can be integrated seamlessly into already existing kitchen cabinetry.

The modularity of a dishwasher drawer not only meets the needs and demands of small apartments, family homes and every house in between, but it offers a more ergonomic and accessible solution. Installed at the right height for loading and unloading dishes, it requires less bending and lifting than a drop-door dishwasher.

Never one to rest on its laurels, Fisher & Paykel has continuously improved and updated the DishDrawer™ since its debut. The soon-to-launch Series 11 Integrated Single DishDrawer™ Dishwasher is a natural progression of the iconic appliance, with seamless integration and ergonomic placement due to the soft-close drawers, allowing it to be conveniently positioned at bench height for easy loading. The smaller size means it uses less water and detergent than a traditional dishwasher, whilst still offering ample space for dishes. This new model will offer eight wash programs with Wi-Fi capability and a SmartHQ™ app for remote control use.

Fisher & Paykel designed the DishDrawer™ to complement its family of kitchen appliances, with matching handles, premium styling and quality materials for a smart and stylish finish. It is available in Integrated and Contemporary styles. The Integrated style blends seamlessly into kitchen cabinetry with minimal installation gaps. The Contemporary style has a stainless-steel front panel in black, silver or white, and with clean lines and sleek handles.

Fisher & Paykel changed the course of kitchen design when it introduced the DishDrawer™ Dishwasher. Today it provides even greater design freedom and beauty of choice, so customers can have their ultimate kitchen tailored to their lifestyle, preferences and needs.
