Introducing Gritti by Marc Sadler for Venetian company Sylcom which celebrates the wonder of nature with expressions of light in glass.
These eight lighting fixtures are rich in references to the plant, mineral, and animal world, and are described by the company as a “re-reading of a noble and ancient material through the lens of design and an experimentation of innovative solutions, often borrowed from other industries, in which high-tech embraces the beauty of glass”.
The light almost seems to vibrate within these objects, characterised by a creative exterior but with functional overtones. Representing a new approach to the world of traditional glassmaking, this collection sees each element as a structure, left in plain sight, that provides a design balance between the light and the material.
Designer Marc Sadler is know for transversing between disciplines and for being able to apply his skills across specialisations, and with Gritti, this is most evident. His profound knowledge of materials and ability to transfer technological acumen, has created a lighting collection quite unlike any other.
In this special project for Gritti and Sylcom, Sadler has created items of beauty with expressions that highlight the unexpected use of glass, and a technical approach towards art-design, within a process that is quite opposite to the traditional form of artistic glassmaking. As partners, the designer and the company embrace a new approach to glass and lighting design. Gritti translates the know-how of a “made in Venice” company, specialising in working glass according to Murano culture, into an expression of a world-renowned designer who is not afraid to explore untrodden paths.
