Over the last few years, the affirmation of a perception of the home as a place to be rethought based on the fact that people are now spending more and more time there, has driven us to design more welcoming, personalised spaces.

The home is no longer only a place that welcomes us in the evening at the end of our daily working and social activities. It is also a space in which to work, study and relax. The more we live in the home, the more the sense of home changes, adapting to fit our most important requirements. And, like the home, the lighting inside it is also changing its very essence.

The organic effectiveness of a high quality light source definitely has an important impact on the brain’s concentration levels, our physical and mental well-being and our physical health in general. The discovery of a third receptor in the human eye has brought home the effects that specific lighting conditions can have on the circadian and seasonal rhythms, scientifically showing that specific lighting design solutions improve the concentration levels, can prevent sleep disturbances and enhance people’s well-being in general.

Now that the era of the mono-colour and mono-intensity luminaire controlled by the traditional on-off switch is over, light has become part of a veritable smart system that integrates and interacts with the other light sources and the devices that manage them.

X-Driver by Domus LineBased on this, Domus Line has developed an integrated system of controllers for LED luminaires. A system structured in four levels of control under X-DRIVER, a multinet converter unit – 110-120VAC Plug & Play power cable – for LED luminaires that can accommodate multifunction electronic control modules, each of which activates specific functions.

On the first level, the CM1-XD module activates the signal of specific infra-red proximity and movement sensors, which, when connected to X-DRIVER , automatically manage the switching on and off and the brightness of the luminaires when the furniture doors are opened, or with simple hand gestures.  A safety system turns off the lamps after a set time even if the unit doors remain open or the user mistakenly forgets to switch them off.

X-Driver by Domus LineOn the second level, the CM2-XD module generates a radiofrequency (RF) signal that pilots the luminaires using a wireless control – remote controls and infra-red sensors. These adjust individual luminaires or groups of them in the various environments of the home. The CM3-XD module activates the BLE – Bluetooth – signal, which interfaces X-DRIVER with the smartphone by way of the dedicated DOMUS4U BLE App developed by Domus Line, so enabling the space restrictions to be overcome and an inclusive, barrier-free home system to be created.

X-Driver by Domus LineBut the most interesting and innovative part is the possibility for the user to manage the lights using voice assistants, and choose any brightness settings with his or her voice. With a simple “Hey Google, dim the light” or “Alexa, turn the lights on”, he or she can select any colour and brightness for the luminaires connected to  X-DRIVER .

X-Driver by Domus LineIndeed, with the CM4-XD module, X-DRIVER connects to the domestic Wi-Fi network and interfaces with the smartphone, through the DOMUS4U WIFI App, and the Amazon Echo and Google Nest voice assistants. Thanks to this set-up, the user can save real light scenarios that combine the shades of light and its brightness, then selecting them with the App, or his or her voice.

X-Driver by Domus LineWith X-DRIVER, the user can make the various moments of the day comfortable and create the right atmosphere for cooking, watching the TV, dining with friends, reading or meditating. For each moment of the day, the user can call up one of his or her favourite scenarios with a few touches or simply by using his or her voice.
